On July 16, 2014, the owner and operator of Team Dry Cleaners, pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to have secondary containment under containers of Tetrachloroethylene (Use in Dry Cleaning and Reporting Requirements) Regulations (PERC) contaminated waste water. The owner was fined $12,000 ($6,000 per count) to be directed to the Government of Canada’s Environmental Damages Fund and ordered to write a letter to a textile magazine about the results of the court proceeding (publication and wording of letter to be approved by Crown). The court granted the owner a 12-month deadline to pay the fine.
