On November 6, 2023, before the Court of Québec in Laval, Plastique Royal Inc. pleaded guilty to an offence under subsection 238 (1) of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 for failing to comply with an environmental protection compliance order issued on April 17, 2019, thereby committing an offence punishable on summary conviction under paragraph 272 (1)(a) of the said Act.
On the same day, Plastique Royal Inc. also pleaded guilty to an offence under subsection 3(2) of the Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) Concentration Limits for Automotive Refinishing Products Regulations, for having sold or offered for sale automotive refinishing products listed in column 1 of the schedules whose volatile organic compound (VOC) concentration exceeded the maximum concentration set out in column 2 of the schedule to the regulations, thereby committing an offence punishable on summary conviction under paragraph 272 (1)(h) of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999.
Royal Plastic Inc. was ordered to pay fines totalling $600,000 ($300,000 per count), which will be paid to the Governement of Canada's Environmental Damages Fund. |
