On 16 November 2023, during a routine patrol in La Prairie, Quebec, within an area protected under an Emergency Order for the protection of the Western Chorus Frog, wildlife enforcement officers from Environment and Climate Change Canada observed evidence of heavy machinery activity. They also noted vegetation damage spanning approximately 612 square metres.
Following an investigation, it was determined that Les Excavations Jacques Germain & Fils Inc. and Les Habitations Pilon Inc. were responsible for the damage which occurred during work related to the modification of an advertising sign. As a result, legal proceedings were initiated against both companies for contravening subsection 2(1) of the Emergency Order. |
